Toyota Camry Also Know As Celica Camry

Toyota Camry Also Know As Celica Camry

The Toyota Camry has its roots in the Toyota Celica when the Celica Camry was introduced 30 years ago as a four-door version of the Toyota Celica which was meant exclusively for the domestic Japanese market. The original Celica Camry was essentially a restyled Toyota Carina with styling cues taken from the 1978 Celica Supra. The popularity of the four doors Celica Camry encouraged Toyota to think of a new separate model line for the Camry.

So in 1982 the Camry became a separate model line available in two versions, a four door sedan and a fastback version, this original lineup was known as the V10 version and was followed by the V20 model line in 1986 which included an additional station wagon variant. In 1990 when Toyota introduced the V30 series of Toyota Camry it was a Japan only model series to cope with the newly introduced Japanese Automotive Tax regulations, this model line featured a slimmer body than that featured in the past Camry model lineups. For the overseas market however a “wide-body” model the XV10 was introduced. In 1996 the XV20 replaced the XV10 and this model line finally ended the era of separate Camry’s with similar Camry’s sold worldwide

The XV40 Camry was first introduced in 2006. Then in 2007 Toyota saw fit to completely redesign the Camry by giving it a more modern and sleeker design. This iteration of the Camry is the basis of the present model of the Toyota Camry with a minor facelifts and changes for the current model.

The current Toyota Camry is driven by either a four (2.5 CC) or six cylinder engine(3.5CC) depending on the model. Starting from 2010, the engine was tweaked to produce a higher power output of 169, as compared to the previous 158 power output for the 2007 to 2009 Camry’s. Starting 2010.power locks and traction was also included as standard items. The latest Toyota Camry features a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic gearbox. The current Camry was face lifted in 2009 and features a restyled fascia and new headlights and taillights. For 2011 Toyota introduced a brand new 2.5-liter 2AR-FE four-cylinder engine coupled to a new six-speed automatic gearbox. The 2.5-liter engine is more powerful than the previous 2.4 liter power plant and churns out 169 horsepower (126 kW) for the basic model and 179 horsepower (133 kW) for the higher spec 4 cylinder Toyota Camry. Other than the standard gasoline engine Camry’s the XV40 model lineup is also the first to feature a gasoline electric hybrid version which combines a four cylinder 2AZ-FXE engine mated to a 40 horsepower electric motor. The hybrid version is only available in selected markets including North America and Japan.

From its introduction 31 years ago till today Toyota’s Camry model continues to give users comfortable, efficient and dependable transportation. Toyota has continued to develop its Camry to be excellent though somewhat bland in this area and thanks to continued development the Toyota Camry has become one of the best selling mid sized cars for the past twenty five years.…

Honda Civic – Successful in All Markets

Honda Civic – Successful in All Markets

Since more than four decades, Honda Civic has proved an inspiration for car designers. In fact, it is the second longest continually produced Japanese vehicle in North America. Known for its fuel economy, sporty looks and regular enhancement, Honda Civic has proved equally successful in all markets. It is also one of those few cars which has not only managed to retain top ratings in its class but also challenged higher class vehicles. Such rapid transformation has allowed Civic engineers to overtake its competitors and prove worthy competitor to its much larger cousin, Honda Accord. In 2000, it was reclassified as compact car instead of sub compact car.

The Original Honda Civic

The first Honda Civic was a small car sold in 1973. Bucket seats, power disk brakes, standard AM radio and fuel economy proved instant hit with customers. Onwards, Civic continued its winning streak by proving a highly reliable model which didn’t have all the luxuries but could tackle harsh conditions. It was this reliability that helped increase sales, until 1988. By the end of 80’s, it was becoming increasingly evident that face-lift was needed to remain successful.

Major Changes

Consequently, the fourth generation Honda Civic, in 1988, contained fully independent rear suspension, increased dimensions and lower hood line. Consumers were impressed by new design features prompting engineers to introduce yet another version, three years later. The new redesigned Civic included a superior 1.6 L DOHC VTEC engine of nearly 160 hp. Also, improved aerodynamic styling, fuel efficiency and sporty looks, once again, convinced consumers to pay for additional price.

Future

Next four years saw Japanese car makers concentrating on quality therefore modifications was rare but its fame as one of the most reliable cars, remained its trump card. On the arrival of 21st century, Honda City took a giant leap by introducing flat rear floors that automatically promoted it from sub compact class category to compact class category. Moreover, a more powerful VTEC engine and certain other features had already made it more classier than its major international rival, Toyota Corolla. Nowadays, Honda Civic is known for its futuristic looks and technology that have become the basis of success for other popular Honda versions including Acura, CRV and compact SUV.…

1998 Honda Civic

1998 Honda Civic

1998 Honda Civic is the longest lived vehicle in the manufacturer’s lineup. Being a sub-compact car means that it has a lot of competition from great vehicles like the Toyota Corolla. Amazingly for over 30 years the Civic has been the number one car in it’s class and that doesn’t look like it’s about to change. Not much has been overhauled for the ’98 model compared with previous years, but a few things have been tweaked for the better. Depending upon the trim package chosen the Civic ranges from rather basic to a fully loaded modern machine.

Still one of the most important aspects behind the car is the great fuel economy that it offers owners. Beyond that integral factor are the small stature that make the vehicle very easy to drive and an overall build quality that makes the vehicle comfortable and pleasant to look at. The trim packages available for the 1998 Honda Civic include the CX, DX, LX, HX, and Si. The basic models include the CX and DX trim levels which don’t really come with a whole lot of extra amenities. Expect one of these vehicles to come without power windows and locks, no AC, and only basic stereo systems. For something a little more refined there are the LX models which have a lot more going on the inside. Standard features for these trim packages include power windows and locks, AC, better audio systems, sun roofs, and more interior fabrics to select from.

The Si level has been outfitted for the year with a more powerful VTEC engine. Most Si models are equipped with the same standard features as the high end LX and have some additional features as optional equipment. A GX model was introduced as well for the year which runs entirely off of natural gas. HX models are hatchbacks that come with the high-end features and are a lot shorter than the standard 2 door coupes. Overall the 1998 Honda Civic comes in a wide variety of trim levels at the upper end and a lot of different power train options for fuel economy.

The standard engine for most vehicles is the 1.6 liter 4 cylinder engine. Most other high end models are some sort of adoption upon that engine to get better horsepower or something else out of it. The standard transmission for most models is a 5 speed manual with a 4 speed automatic as optional equipment. The Si model is equipped with only a 6 speed manual for optimal performance. On gasoline powered models the average fuel efficiency ranges from 29 mpg city to 36 mpg highway. Those numbers make the Civic one of the most economical cars produced for the ’98 model year.

Overall performance is rather good and the wishbone suspension is certainly what makes the cars handle so nimbly. Compared with cars like the Nissan Altima the 1998 Civic is one of the most pleasant to drive and feels solid on any possible driving surface.

Consumers looking for a budget vehicle that is built to last will want to take a look at any one of the Civic models offered. They remain some of the popular cars in production today and are known for their ride quality, great fuel economy, and the superb quality of engineering.…

2002 Honda Civic

2002 Honda Civic

The Honda Civic has long been the industry leader in the small or compact car market. First introduced in the 1970’s it also remains one of the most popular vehicles as well. The 2002 Honda Civic is quite different from it’s predecessors and is available with a gas electric hybrid model that gives added fuel economy while making it one of the most environmentally friendly cars. Other new features for the ’02 model year include the addition of a hatchback option along with the standard coupes and sedans Honda has always provided in years past.

Trim packages available include the DX, LX, and high end EX level. All of these packages are available on both sedan and coupe body styles. The HX model is also a newcomer to the Civic fleet and is provided as a fuel efficient vehicle with a few tweaks than the standard models. DX models come with full power accessories, radio/stereos with 4 speakers, and a few other optional items. Most DX models are rather basic and come with the smaller engine as standard equipment. The mid-level package is the LX which comes with a few more creature comforts than DX models, including full power accessories, AC, CD players, power adjustable driver seats, sun roofs, and some other optional features. At the luxury end level are the EX trim packages. Every EX comes with full power accessories, larger stereo systems with more speakers, full leather upholstery, CD changers, and optional navigation systems.

Consumers looking for something more fuel efficient will have to consider the hybrid model, HX, or Si. The new hatchback model is the Si which only has 2 doors and is an entire 9 inches shorter than any other 2002 Honda Civic. The fuel efficient HX coupe model comes with a continuously variable transmission that adjust the gear ratios so that optimal gas consumption is achieved in all driving situations. Of course there is also the hybrid model option that does lose a little bit of horsepower, but gains dramatically in the fuel consumption area.

Engines available for these cars include the standard 1.7 liter 4 cylinder engine that comes with a standard 5 speed manual transmission or an optional automatic. Si models use a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine that puts out 160 horsepower. All Si models come equipped with a 5 speed manual transmission with no option for an automatic. Hybrid models come with a 85 horsepower gasoline engine with an extra 93 horsepower coming from the electric motor. Hybrid 2002 Honda Civic models get between 46 mpg city and 51 mpg highway. Gasoline powered models get EPA fuel economies of 30 mpg city and 36 mpg highway, making them some of the most fuel efficient cars of the ’02 model year.

Compared with the Ford Focus the Civic remains the car to beat for the year. IN crash tests rankings the Civic remains one of the safest compact vehicles on the market. Handling is very nimble and is still owed to the uniquely tuned suspension system that Honda designed for the Civic and Accord models. Interior quality is another aspect that these cars seem to excel, offering ample room for rear passengers. Consumers looking for a small car that is sporty, well refined, handles great, and comes at a very affordable price must consider one of the 2002 Honda Civic models.…

Think Twice Before Tuning Your Toyota Supra

Think Twice Before Tuning Your Toyota Supra

Supra has become very popular after the Fast & the Furious movie. Everyone remembers the famous 10-second orange MKIV generation Supra. This is the point where Supra owners started to think more about converting their slow non-turbo 2JZ-GE engines into a 400-700 horsepower 2JZ-GE-T beasts.

I am one of those owners (yes, a girl with a beautiful red Supra) having a naturally aspirated Toyota Supra 1995, 222hp in stock with manual gearbox. The car is gorgeous, sexy lines, original interior – great feeling to drive the car. The only thing that was wrong was the lack of power. I like to drive fast, I just love brutal acceleration with wheel spin and 222hp was not enough for the Supra to become my dream car. So I decided to tune it. I was totally new to turbo chargers, standalone engine management, intercoolers and BOV-s. I had no idea how much it could cost and that it was not the best choice to tune a car with 184k miles on the odometer.

The first thing I have done after talking with a tuning specialist was ordering a full turbo kit which consisted of a Precision T61 turbo, Intercooler, 440cc injectors, HKS BOV, all sorts of pipes, cone air filter, all sorts of fuel/oil lines, some sensors, fuel pressure regulator and some other things needed for a turbo conversion. I have spent $3900 for the kit plus AEM standalone unit to tune the fuel (+$1400).

After a month when I had all things on my hands I could start to convert my beautiful princess into a sexy wild roaring beast. The car has spent 2 weeks in the tuning shop when all the stuff got bolted on and tuned to 400hp on a crank.

It is nearly impossible to describe my first experience of driving a 400hp Supra, hearing the turbo spin and BOV releasing extra pressure, I just can’t describe that awesome feeling, it is even better than sex! Going single turbo was worth every dollar until…until the problems started to happen.

After two months of owing a turbo charged Toyota Supra the stock gearbox has failed. I was really disappointed, but this was not the only bad thing that happened. I have spent few months to find and order the gearbox from the internet, spent more money to have it installed and had my car back when the engine started knocking on my way home from the tuning shop. It appeared that I needed a new JZ block with all internals.

After I have bolted on the turbo, the problems just kept coming. Now my main aim is to sell the car. So think twice before starting to tune an old car. It is much better to drive a naturally aspirated car, than to have a turbo charged one in the tuning shop and not being able to drive it.…

Nearly 40 Years of the Honda Civic

Nearly 40 Years of the Honda Civic

The Honda Civic stormed North America in the fuel hungry times of the early 1970’s. The Civic was first sold in North America in 1972, although it was named the 1973 Civic. The engine was a mere 1.2 litres and the vehicle was so notorious for early body rust in the first three years, especially on cars that were driven where road salt was used, that safety recalls were issued.

For the 1970’s, the Civic was produced as a two door coupe or a three door hatchback. The 1980’s brought the four-door Civic Sedan. In 1984, the first version of the Civic SI was introduced in Japan and the USA. In the United States, the SI was in the form of the two-seater CRX. From 1980 to 1983, Honda offered the ground breaking semi-automatic transmission in the Civics, which was the predecessor of their current automatic transmission.

The Honda Civic was designated a subcompact vehicle from 1973 until 2000. With the 2001 version, the seventh generation Civic, came the redesignation to the compact car. The car is in its eighth generation, an era that lasted from 2006 to the current 2011 version. Sometime in late spring or early summer of 2011, the ninth generation Civic will be brought on the market as the 2012 model.

The Honda Civic Coupe and Civic Sedan have together sold 1.6 million units in Canada alone since 1973. 2010 marked the 13thyear in a row that the Civic was the number one selling automobile in Canada. All Civics, except the Hybrid model, are built right in Canada at the Honda Production Plant in Alliston, Ontario.

The ninth generation Civic will be sleeker and sportier than the current version. The vehicle will be introduced in the traditional coupe, sedan, SI and hybrid models as well as a natural gas powered version. Rumours abound that the standard 2012 Civic will feature an engine similar to the 2011 SI model and the 2012 SI will be enlarged in size to a 2.4 litre engine. We’ll all have to wait to the product launch to find out for certain.…

Creative New Ways to Supe Up Your Honda Civic Hatchback

Creative New Ways to Supe Up Your Honda Civic Hatchback

If you’re the owner of a Honda Civic hatchback, you’re probably a part of the tuner culture. What’s a tuner, you ask. A tuner is someone who constantly adds custom features, designs engine upgrades to his vehicle. Think Fast and Furious. Tuners like to show off their cars, so it’s probably a safe assumption you’re not content with the boring shade of red the factory painted your Honda.

Honda Civic hatchbacks are a favorite among enthusiasts for customizing. From a custom paint job with intricate details to a stellar sound system, drivers of the hatchback Civic find all kinds of ways to customize it to suit their personalities.

Start With the Paint

Even getting a paint job in another solid color has become passe. These days, Honda Civic hatchback drivers compete to have the most unique paint job in town. That might be a green dragon theme, complete with fire breathing dragon on the hood, 3D flames on the side, or even a shadow of a samurai on the side panels.

Consider your car as a canvas. Just like a painting or a tattoo, you can add artistic touches that speak to who you are.

Interior Design

The outside of your Honda Civic hatchback isn’t the only thing that can be improved upon. Drivers of the hatchback love replacing the standard paneling with a color and texture that matches the outside. You can upgrade the stereo system and speakers, as well as the seats (zebra print, anyone?).

Extra Accessories

While you’re on a roll, think of other ways you can stand out. Some Civic hatchback owners replace the Honda manufactured doors with DeLorean style doors that open at the top. Space age! You can also add custom rims or hubcaps, bras, grills or chrome parts to accentuate your hatchback’s awesome factor.

Getting Under the Hood

If you’re mechanically inclined and are into racing, consider suping up your Honda Civic hatchback’s engine to give it more get-up-and-go. You can buy aftermarket parts at a decent price, and before you know it, your hatchback will be converted into a super fast cheetah car!

Show it Off

Once your creation is complete, don’t neglect your bragging rights. Submit it to be featured in one of the customized car magazines or websites, enter it in a car show, or start your own car blog. You can get publicity for your hard work and even win prizes for your Honda Civic hatchback.…
